There is an estimated 9.3 million unemployed citizens in South Africa in 2018 and over 6 million are under the age of 35. More young people are becoming discouraged everyday because they are unable to find Jobs,
There are various factors to why young people are unable to get jobs in South Africa.
A mismatch of skills and available jobs.
Employers require experience up from 1-3 years, of which young people do not have.

Southern Africa Youth Project exists with the sale purpose of “changing the way the youth think about themselves”.
We run an empowerment program called “Povert2Jobs> that focuses on Educational Support for a girl child, Capacity building for youth and Job placement for youth.
Southern Africa Youth Project is a Youth development institution that strives to change the way young people in rural areas and townships thinks about themselves. We do this by up-skilling them to recognize and utilize the opportunities that are around them.
This is done through the following interventions
Educational Support for the girl child
Capacity building for the unemployed youth
and finally linking unemployed youth into jobs and educational opportunities
On the demand side, Southern Africa Youth Project SayPro prepares first-time employees for work, providing a pool of skilled workers for businesses and minimising the risks associated with employing first-time job seekers.
Moreover, it has built a scalable model to source, screen, and we match high volumes of young people based on their personal strengths, instead of simply looking at their educational history or other formal qualifications, and it can do this for multiple organisations at the same time.
Southern Africa Youth Project SayPro also assists job seekers in identifying which of their skills may need improvement and offers them help. On the supply side, SayPro sources and selects young people who exhibit demonstrated potential but who have gaps in work readiness, and puts them through an intensive bridging program that helps them cultivate the skills and personal development needed for success in the workplace.
They are then placed in preselected, permanent, formal-sector jobs. SayPro also addresses the resource constraints and lack of social networks that young people face when looking for work. It deploys recruiters to the areas of greatest deprivation, for example, and creates application processes that use accessible technology, such as cell phones, to reduce the costs of applying for a job.
