The best pensioner discounts in Cape Town

Hitting 60 is a landmark, and many approach the age with apprehension. There are loads of specials and discounts available to make your 60s the best decade yet: packed full of adventure, events, and experiences that don’t break the bank. Treat yourself! Many of these discounts are only available to South African citizens and are subject to change. Call ahead to avoid disappointment.
Table Mountain Aerial Cableway
For just R100, South African senior citizens can get their hands on ticket up the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway. You could also hike up and take the Cableway down for just R50 one way. And if you work up an appetite, ask about the pensioner’s special at the Table Mountain Café, located at the top. You can get a homemade pie, salad, a slice of milk tart, and a coffee or tea for R72.50. No bookings are available online: you’ll need to go to the Lower Cableway Station ticket office.
The discount: R1o0 return or R50 one way tickets for SA citizens, valid seven days a week

Cape Nature accommodation
South African pensioners qualify for 30% on self-catering and camping accommodation booked through Cape Nature. The discount is available seven days a week throughout the year, with the exception of the Easter school holiday period and the December/January school holiday period.

Cape Point Flying Dutchman Funicular
Cape Point offers a special rate on Wednesdays for the Flying Dutchman Funicular for South Africans over 60.  A return ticket will cost you R30, while a one way ticket costs R22.
The discount: R50 return tickets for the Flying Dutchamn Funicula. On Wednesdays South African pensioners get a bigger discount: R30 (return), R22 (single)

Tsogo Sun Hotels
Stay at one of Tsogo Sun Hotels magical destinations for 50% off the rate of the day. Their Cape Town hotels include  Southern Sun The Cullinan, Southern Sun Waterfront Cape Town, Southern Sun Cape Sun, Southern Sun Newlands, SunSquare Cape Town City Bowl, SunSquare Cape Town Gardens, Garden Court Nelson Mandela Boulevard, StayEasy Cape Town City Bowl and StayEasy Century City.

V&A Waterfront
The V&A Waterfront offers senior citizens a number of great discounts. All you have to do is make your way to the Information Kiosk with your ID document and fill out the application form. You’ll receive a card that can be presented for discounts at participating restuarants, exhibitions, attractions, and shops. Some highlights 15% off your bill at Balducci daily, free parking on weekday mornings, and 50% off weekday lunches at Karibu. New offers are added regualrly!

Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden
On Tuesdays, South African pensioners get into Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden for free. Spend the day walking around the many footpaths, picnicking on the lawns, and exploring the gardens. The offer does not include public holidays.
The discount: Free entry on Tuesdays for South African senior citizens

City Sightseeing
Cape Town’s famous City Sightseeing offers South African pensioners (60 and over) a special discounted price on all Classic (1-day valid tickets) until end October 2020. So you’ll pay R120 for a ticket that usually costs R245. Buy your ticket at the ticket office at the V&A Waterfront, located outside the Two Oceans Aquarium or at the CBD office, located at 81 Long Street. Just bring your South African barcoded ID along to qualify. Pensioner tickets are not available online.
