To implement the SAYP Skill Development Program over 24 sessions to groups of 20 AGYW, over the course of 12 months to totally reach 1,000 AGYW in 12 months.

– Additional description of objective (optional):  AGYW come to the program in groups of 20 twice a month and continue to come until they are connected to employment opportunities, therefore, the goal is technically to exit the AGYW before completion of the 24 sessions. So if a AGYW exits, another AGYW would be enrolled to maintain the total number of 1,000 over the 12 months of the grant

Southern Africa Youth Project is a youth-led non-profit organisation with over 15 years’ experience addressing issues that children and youth in-school and those not in employment, education or training from townships and informal settlements face in South Africa today.

  • Technology: Southern Africa Youth Project through its innovation hubs and development centres provides Technology Capacity Support, Digital Skills, Arts, Graphics, Coding and Programming.
  • Education: Southern Africa Youth Project works with Secondary Schools, Technical Vocational Education and Training TVET Colleges by providing learner educational and psychosocial support.
  • Health: Southern Africa Youth Project understands that Technology and Education cannot be achieved if our Youth and Women are not mentally and physically well.
  • Employment: Southern Africa Youth Project links unemployed Youth and Women to opportunities as an exit strategy.

  • ACTIVITY ONE: Recruitment of 1000 young adults aged 18-24 to participate in HIV/AIDS Prevention program

Southern Africa Youth Project will purchase 20,000 bulk SMS’s which a training cost to communicate with beneficiaries for is:

  1. Recruitment of 1 000 young adults aged 18-24 from Diepsloot and surrounding rural communities as project beneficiaries.
  2. Conducting active follow-up and re-engagement strategies using SMS to follow-up on beneficiaries who showed interest and dropped out of the project.
  3. Referral and linkage of young adults aged 18-24 (with consent from parents and guardians for those under 18 years) for HIV Testing and Counselling (HTC), STI Treatment, Teenage Pregnancy among adolescent girls aged 15 – 19 in local health care facilities and clinics; and
  1. Referral and linkage of beneficiaries to a work experience internship, learnership, job placements further education and training.
  • ACTIVITY TWO: Purchase of licence for online HIV training course

Southern Africa Youth Project will pay for 1,000 Pre-Assessment Forms, 1,000 Project Registration Forms, Certificate of Completion, Letter Heads and letters of support as proof of residency for beneficiaries for the project period 01 March 2022 to 30 February 2023 contributing the following training activities:

  1. Develop/ refine training curricula for the content to be used during the project. An external consultant shall be appointed.
  2. Trainer manuals shall be amended and designed when outstanding
  3. Project forms and templates on our admission, work-readiness, and transition into the labour market with support from subject matter experts shall be designed and printed
  4. Conduct pre-service, mentorship and in-service training for project facilitators

– ACTIVITY THREE: Train the trainer

Southern Africa Youth Project will pay for engagement of external specialists to conduct Train the Trainer workshops in Q1 (March2– May 2023), provide mentorship and follow-up support sessions for project staff for the project period 01 march 2022 to 30 February 2023, and review the content of the manual and curricula, edit and align it to the project objectives in Q1 (March 2022– May 2022) that will contribute to:

  1. Conducting a 5-day pre-service and monthly in-service training for facilitators
  2. Conducting quarterly learning and sharing workshops for project staff
  3. Provi ding quality age-appropriate education on HIV and other STI prevention, treatment, care, and support for 1 000 young adults aged 18-24 at risk.
  1. Conduct behaviour change communication life skills training on various topics (Delayed

sexual debut, condom, and sex negotiation, correct and consistent condom use, Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), HIV post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP), sexual reproductive health rights, family planning and teenage pregnancy among adolescent girls aged 15 – 19.

  1. Conducting condom distribution exercise in strategic locations at the Southern Africa Youth Project and within the community in Diepsloot township and surrounding communities.
  2. Facilitating work-readiness training to prepare 1 000 young women for the job market Southern Africa Youth Project will purchase 20,000 bulk SMS’s which is a training cost to communicate with beneficiaries for:
