Southern Africa Youth Project is a Youth development institution that strives to change the way Youth in rural areas and townships thinks about themselves. We do this by providing educational support for the girl child in school, capacity building for the youth and linking unemployed youth into jobs and opportunities.
Southern Africa Youth Project is a registered Nonn-Profit Organisation with headquarters in Johannesburg, South Africa. The organisation was founded in 2005 to address the high youth unemployment rate
SayPro prepares first-time job seekers to prepare for working world, providing a pool of skilled workers for businesses and minimising the risks associated with employing first-time job seekers.
We have built a scalable model to source, screen, and we match high volumes of young people based on their personal strengths, instead of simply looking at their educational history or other formal qualifications, and it can do this for multiple organisations at the same time.
Southern Africa Youth Project SayPro also assists job seekers in identifying which of their skills may need improvement and offers them help. On the supply side, SayPro sources and selects young people who exhibit demonstrated potential but who have gaps in work readiness, and puts them through an intensive bridging program that helps them cultivate the skills and personal development needed for success in the workplace.
They are then placed in preselected, permanent, formal-sector jobs. SayPro also addresses the resource constraints and lack of social networks that young people face when looking for work. It deploys recruiters to the areas of greatest deprivation, for example, and creates application processes that use accessible technology, such as cell phones, to reduce the costs of applying for a job.
This is done through the following interventions

We have conducted a baseline study in 2010 in which we have realized the need to address the structural constraints of a large, poorly educated, the Youth and people with disabilities from rural areas without the social capital to get workplace skills, work experience, and job placement.
Some of the challenges that we have identified are
Educational Support for the Girl Child
- In every 10 girls 6 are dating older boys and men in order for them to get money for sanitary towels and toiletries
2. Every day a girl becomes pregnant and chances for them to failing to complete high school are 80%
3. In every 10 girls 6 have been pregnant and the father is unknown. This leads to the girl looking for opportunities in order to support the child. This means that the child will not be able to have diapers and may miss some childhood gifts he/she was supposed to be getting
4. All the girls who becomes pregnant becomes emotionally dissapointed and demotivated to achieve anything in life
5. After they have experienced difficulties dreams and wishes become discouraged and all they think about is to go to work
Southern Africa Youth Project restores the emotional intelligence into these girls and boys
Capacity Building for the Unemployed Youth and linking them to jobs and opportunities
- Many Youth have completed high school and are unable to find higher education opportunities. This is due to the lack of advisory and referral services.
2. In communities where we operate we have noticed that majority of the youth engages in strikes, mob justices and complains to the government for not delivering on promises
3. In every 10 boys only 3 are employed in the informal sector. However they have not obtained any work experience
4. Everyday those who are employed they get retrenched by their employers. This means that communities and rural areas will have more people that are unemployed
5. Due to lack of education and proper qualification. These Youth are left to be hopeless
